In a high-stakes event held in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) actively participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the forthcoming 2024 season. The franchise strategically bolstered its squad, making key acquisitions to enhance its team dynamics.
Heading into the auction, SRH had a clear vision for the upcoming season, opting to retain a formidable core of players from their previous roster. The retained players include Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and the experienced Shahbaz Ahmed, who joined SRH from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
With an eye on strengthening specific positions and ensuring a well-balanced squad, SRH actively participated in the auction and secured the services of several impactful players. The newly acquired players include Travis Head, who was secured for a substantial Rs. 6.80 crore, the promising all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for Rs. 1.5 crore, the Australian pace sensation Pat Cummins for a whopping Rs. 20.50 crore, seasoned campaigner Jaydev Unadkat for Rs. 1.60 crore, and the emerging talents Akash Singh and Jhathavedh Subramanyan, both secured for Rs. 20 lakh each.
After a series of strategic bids, SRH concluded the auction with a squad strength of 25 players, including an overseas contingent of 8 players. The franchise, known for its astute planning, managed its finances efficiently, leaving a purse balance of Rs. 3.2 crore.
The SRH management expressed satisfaction with the composition of their squad, highlighting the blend of experience and youth. As they look ahead to the 2024 IPL season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad aim to build on their past successes and compete fiercely for the coveted IPL title.
